About Marilyn Barton
Marilyn Barton has recently moved from Arizona to Sun City Shadow Hills, Indio, California. She paints with Acrylic, Watercolor, Pastel, Pencil and Charcoal. Marilyn was art major at UCLA where she concentrated on the many aspects of fine art including, life drawing, illustration, photography, painting, printmaking and art history. In recent years, she studied watercolor from a well-known teacher and artist/publisher in the Palm Springs area. Marilyn has specialized in capturing the beauty of the desert with her unique style and colorations in watercolor, acrylic and pastel. Marilyn also teaches art classes in watercolor and pastel. In her classes, students have explored the magic of color, color mixing and artistic techniques. Marilyn began teaching in 2007 at Central Arizona Community College. Her classes are designed for beginning and intermediate students. Marilyn’s painting “Cactus Flower” was chosen as the poster winner for the 2006 Canyon Arts Festival, held in Arizona. This painting was featured on the cover of the Gold Canyon Ledger in January 2006. She has exhibited at many venues in Gold Canyon and Apache Junction. Marilyn was selected as the “artist of the month” for the Superstition Mountain Museum in Apache Junction, Arizona for August 2007 and May 2009. Artist’s Statement: “When you view my paintings you are viewing my innermost thoughts and feelings. My inspirations are shapes and color. I strive to interpret that physical entity into a two dimensional thought on paper. My vehicle is a brush, a pencil, charcoal, chalk - anything that will let me take that fleeting emotion and bring it to life. I strive to take an object, a picture, or a person and transform it into another dimension. All I ask of you, the viewer, is to take a trip with me and enjoy the ride!” “Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures.” Henry Ward Beecher, Proverbs from Plymouth Pulpit, 1887 m2barton@hotmail.com
